i am thinking of slightly upgrading my speakers, as in no subs, just replacements or maybe speakers for the doors.

i was wondering what i would need to do to fit 6x9s in the rear deck. would i need adapters, or could i just bend up some smaller diameter rod and just put them flush underneath. i dont want to cut holes back there or anything. have any of you guys had success with these??

what have you guys done with the 3.5 inchers up front? i have heard you need bass blockers up there. what are some good replacement speakers?

for the lower door panels, what have you guys done? pics? i would like to get speakers down there, and would like it to look stock without spending $40 on the ebay ones, has anyone made their own? i would def. like to do that, looking for something to do b4 school starts back up

just loking for a small upgrade, tell me what you think and what you have done, and suggestions. any help is appreciated. maybe after college i'll be able to afford some subs and an amp

I have the adapter plates for 6x9's in my car and they work OK. However, the speakers I used hit the trunk torsion bars and would rattle, so I put foam under the magnets to avoid this. For the doors, I am using a factory setup from a Regal with the "Concert Sound II" system, which put 5.25 mids in the doors and 1 in tweeters in the dash. I am not going to use the old speakers though, just the mounts to which I will add some separates I plan to buy off Ebay. I may also eventually get rid of the 6x9's in favor of 4x10's to give me more room for a sub box.

If I decide to do a system one day, I plan to do it more of the old school simple way of having mids (6.5's) next to me in the doors, probally something like mtx or infinity, infinity tweeters in the dash and probally a mtx 12 with a 1000 watt class d amp, I have a system in my malibu right now, and Ive oly spent like 300$ on EVERYthing, including; headunit, 4x6's, 6x9's, 2x12" subs and a two channel 1000w amp. I have since then umpluged the 4x6's put in some tweeters a freind gave me and turned my amp all the way down and it sounds great no matter what I listen too.

But if your just keeping it simple as you say, why not just get two boxes from walmart (you know the make-it-yourself things) and put em behind your seat?

Those boxes are not very good. They tend to come apart and rattle after a little while. I would, however, think about a Pioneer IMPP sub from Wal Mart as a part of your total system. I think you can get a 12 for around $60 and they sound pretty good. I am not big on huge Bass, but you do need some to enjoy a variety of music. My subs are all hand me downs from friends who upgraded, as are all of my amps. However, I usually get compliments on my stereos because they sound good for the money invested. The subs in my truck, for example, are Pioneer IMPP's that a friend got free from his sister's Jeep in 1993, then he traded me for labor for them. They do not boom, but they do enhance my eclectic mix of Led Zeppelin and Linkin Park. The sub amp is a Jensen that was sitting on the seat in an old F-150 a friend was getting ready to junk. I asked and got it for free. It only had a blown fuse and has been in the truck for about 5 years now with no issues. I also use a deck with a built in sub crossover and gain control, plus a 7 band EQ. This way, I can adjust the subs separately from the mids/highs. My door speakers are junkyard refugee Cerwin Vega 6.5 coaxials and factory tweeters. I only spent real money on a good deck and the wiring. I think I have $300 all totaled in the truck. I also had built a system in my Sentra from leftovers, including a broken CD player from my truck that I fixed with pieces of another one a friend was throwing out, and a 4 channel amp that only worked on 2 channels that I got for free. The Cutlass system is based on leftovers from a friend's Altima, along with Ebay bargains and Wal Mart pieces.

I'm running 3.5" JL audios in my dash in my monte. They sound great (for being 3.5"), and not too expansive. The only bad thing is with the removeable grills in the monte, the magnents make it a squeeze to get then back between the windshield and the dash. But once you get them in the holes they fit. The rear speakers I cant really help you too much because I've got 5 1/4" components there. Definatly try the adapters though and go with 6x9's instead of 4x10's. I havent heard many 4x10's that sounded too hot. Pay attention to the depth of the speakers your looking at and you shouldnt have a problem. Eclipse makes some great sounding 3.5"s and 6x9"s and dont have as much magnent as some of the others, reasonably priced too. Just a thought.

do you guys think i can just put 6x9s in there without adapters? or do i really need the adapters?

does anyone have any ideas of what to make some speaker rings out of for the doors, something like the second link in my origional post? what is a good speaker size for down there that would compliment the 3.5s in the dash. i don't know what kind of material would work for speaker rings on the doors, just looking for suggestions on how to make them myself. You NEED the adapters!!!! The only way to avoid them is to cut the part of the trunk lip that seals the trunk from the outside. DO this, and half the speaker will be putting sound under the filler panel.
