Anybody have experience in taking the smog equipment off? If so, any advice or tips? I really wanna take it all off being that after your vehicle is over 25 years old in the state of Texas you only need safety inspection and no smog check. I have an '85 Grand Prix with 305. Thanks guys.

diligently grab a pair a sheers, so to not cut yourself, and just go ****ing crazy

Ahaha thats what I've been thinking. I just dont want to cut the wrong things and car start running terrible or something.

I'm afraid it's a little more involved than "going crazy with some shears"...

Every single vacuum line or air tube needs to be carefully followed to it's source, and capped.
The carb and distributor will often need adjusting after the removal of all these pieces as well.

More often than not when people start pulling that sh*t off, they run into problems.
It's not hurting anything being there, and with a 305, it has no performance to affect anyways.

If you're concerned about the appearance, just leave your hood closed at the cruise-in.
A 305 isn't worth showing off anyways...

x2 :blam:

Thank you for the info. May end up just swapping in a 350 or 383 instead of worrying about it. I figured until then I'd get rid of some of that crap but it may not be worth the time and effort.

Previous owner took it out of my Caprice and it runs ok but there's a bunch of dangling connectors and rerouted vacuum lines. I second just upgrading the motor and eliminating it all at that point. Only benefit is that with it out on the 305 is more room to work on it.

yep what everyone esle said; unless you are swapping engines you are wasting your time removing smog equipment on a smog engine with nothing to gain but losing the weight of the air pump

when I put in my ZZ3 350 motor I left all of the emission stuff in place. I made the 350 look as stock as possible because nobody expects much from a grand prix. It is more fun to have a sleeper. The vacuum hoses were all plugged but they all looked like they were correct. My headers had the a.i.r. hookups in place and the hot air tube for the air cleaner was in place on the front header tube. The ZZ3 did not need egr so that was not functional either. I still ran the stock electronic carb and distributor and I used the 350 HO Camaro prom. It ran great.
