Hi, All!
This is Daniel with the '84 Caprice, 305. In the GM/Chevrolet Shop Manual (ST-329-54) for Caprice and other models, it shows a drawing
of the Air Pump with a metal tube going from the pump to the Diverter Valve, yet in the photos below from my car, it's a rubber hose. I've
pretty much determined that sometime in life of the car, the engine was replaced. I've not had the chance to pull off the alternator to check
the block number. So my question is, is the rubber hose from the pump to the Diverter Valve something specific on another GM engine?
If so, then I'll get the shop manual for that one!

if engine replaced i hope its a post 86' for that 1 pc rear main seal, other than that wouldn;t be too concerned bout emissions aside from cats unless keepin it purist which at that point i get it but have 0 tips, had to go thru a unexpected engine swap 4 yrs ago to a 350 & mechanics suggested dumpin it all cuz over 25 yrs. so im on a basic old skool Qjet with vac advance HEI. it all sounds cute but had 1 issue that i solved and that was TQ converter lockup, i sent em a b&m lockup kit

i passed inspection now 2 times in a blue state, so any other ?s or pn#s for what i did just ask.

Oldsmobile V8s use all rubber hoses and plastic nipples on the switching and control valves. Hose material makes no difference in whether it's working properly or not. Looks like you should be just fine.
