Drove 180 miles round trip to see a 442 that had been stripped of it's "man hood." They took the damn 8.5 rear out of it... it was a true posi and replaced with a 7.5 2:56 one wheel peeler, was full of rust and the 2004r was replaced with a th350. And they raped the interior of it's silver plated 442 dash vents and replaced with burlwood. Talk about someone that felt sorry for the car, and was completely pissed off! Had to vent....... :x

You think that's bad. I went to look at a 442 locally for 10grand. It was an 87 442 with 39k confirmed original miles. I head out to look at it. Car is mint on top, interior was flawless. The undercarrage was ridden with rust. The thing was obviously driven in the salt in its short life. rust was all over the quarter seams, wheel wells, and inside of the bumpers. Floors even had a decent amount of rust. I couldn't believe for such low mileage that it was like this. But that is what salt does. No way that guy is going to get 10k.

They basically made it a regular Cutlass I guess. And that is quite the interesting air cleaner top.....a freakinf circular saw blade?

I.am.still.shaking my head about it.

it kills me people do this to cars like a 442 and not a base model. i have a base model GP that is all original except for the radiator/fan and the transmission but who wants a 200 metric POS under their car? does replacing the factory clock with a factory tach count as being non original? if so add that too. even with 150K plus miles the floor pans have virtually zero rust and the frame has light rust in some areas but definitely no rot.

i'm not trying to keep my car original but right now i dont see the need to hack it up and do stupid things to my car.

if i had a 442 i guarantee i wouldnt be doing that sort of crap to it like that they've done to their own 442's. others may disagree but i dont think some people deserve the cars they have. it's one of the drawbacks to living in a free society, people can do whatever idiot things their idiot minds can come up with.

442 or 3.8L v6 - doesn't matter which type, you just don't downgrade a g-body like that at least replace w/ NOS parts. I have to wonder what the person was thinking while they were installing those crappy parts on that frame and why they didnt just sell everything seperate. I mean, why spend time and hard labor creating a vehicle that is less practical to own than an old tractor when selling the parts seperate would net you the same or more $$$ anyway ?! :wtf:

I'd bet there was a point in this car's life where it was sitting around a yard not running. At this point someone with a base model G-Body probably came along and swapped parts. Probably wasn't until after that happened that this 442 saw renewed interest and ended up with that "autozone crate engine" and got all of that body work.

It has the right hood on it . No scoop on the 442's

Yea Even in a dry garage a car will rust because of moisture from damp concrete . My car has never been on road in rain snow .And I have light surface rust on frame .
As for the Odd parts . Well these were cheap rides couple years ago ( I bought 3 Hursts for under $500 a pc running ) So there was no respect for them . To most if body rusted a rear is a rear and use in other ride.

I dont think anyone say anything about the hood not being the right one.. tobyp said "man hood" he simply meant "balls"...he did not mean hood on the car

Its the exact same as people who buy an rx7 and then take the rotary out. People have very little respect for automotives now a days and do what ever some one tells them to.
