Akron, Oh.
Hey all, I was wondering if there is anyone using solid motor mounts? If so, how do you like them? Is there any extra vibration? Or anything being shook loose? How do they compare to polyurethane? I'm about to install a 383 into a regal and wanted to get some input on which mounts to get. Thanx.

I have them in my '87 and don't mind them at all. Just kind of depends on what you can put up with.

My 455 lopes pretty good at idle with the roller cam and 11.3:1 compression and it really doesn't shake as much as you would think it would with solid mounts.
Whats really nice is that there is ZERO engine movement when you rev it.

Hmm. Thanx for the reply FE3X. I've read in other forums that if you run solid mounts you will get bore distortion. Has anyone ever heard of this? And FE3X, what kind of transmission mount did you use, solid, rubber or poly?

I have a poly mount on mine.

X2 to use the solid mounts even the trans mount this help with headers if the are tight too the frame or steering shaft you don't have to kink the headers so they don't rub ect. But get the solid mounts not a (chain) the chain looks bad go on Ebay it is cheep full kit lower, upper and trans.

I've heard differing opinions on the trans mount. Some say to run a solid with solid mounts and other say to run rubber/poly. Both "camps" say you'll break the trans if you do it one way or the other.

Theroetically, both should work. If the engine mounts limit the movement to zero, then I wouldn't think it would matter what trans mount you used. But there might be more to it than that.

With the solid mounts, does that raise your engine a little higher than stock? Sorry about all the questions. Just trying to get it right the first time. Thanks for replying guys.

i have solid motor mounts and a poly transmission mount. Havent installed yet but i would also like to know any problems before hand

The 78' Malibu wagon my Dad raced has a poly trans, mount and traditional factory motor mounts. It does have a chain on the left side of the motor to control the motor "twist",but should have solid mounts instead.

I've rode in street cars with solid mounts, and to tell the truth, other than a little more vibration on rough roads traveling through the body,it wasn't too bad at all.

For the transmission mount, the one thing I've always been told is that the engine mounts should be equal or firmer than the transmission. For example; you don't want to run a solid transmission mount with rubber engine mounts.

But back to engine mounts. I have only been in one vehicle that had them. It was a 1951 Ford truck with a 600HP SBC in it. Yes it did shake the vehicle more than rubber mounts (haven't actually been in a car with urethane ones yet, until I get mine back lol), but it was nothing that bothered me. His stereo overpowered any engine vibration or noise (and it had 3" side exit). When I build my next gbody I will probably use the solid mounts in it.
