So, our little shack was built in 1961. All the windows were so bad when we bought the place, we made an offer to reflect that. We had the local window company replace all the windows except the basement and picture window. We are planning on replacing the picture window with a patio door or french doors onto a deck, which we would build. I really miss Dad for input on these projects. He was a Carpenter for years. He learned from my Grandfather, who apprenticed in Scotland and worked in South Africa as a Carpenter for 10 years before coming to Canada. Here are my weapons of choice for the two basement windows, already did the two in my Daughter's room.

I did vinyl hopper windows in my basement years ago and theyve held up very well. The only thing you should have considered was using ACQ or treated lumber for the frame. Holds up a lot longer so close to the ground. I ripped 5/4 decking for the frame.

Yeah, the treated lumber is a good idea.
