I just put the mufflers on the olds so I could start driving it around a little before we do the new crossmember and full exhaust.

It was running fine, but the timing was a little off, so i had the light and was trying to get it situated and next thing I know it won't run! this happened before, and it was a bad module. this time i figured it might be a bad coil beacuse i have a new module, so i put a new coil in it. that wasnt it... Its an HEI dist, and i got it from the junkyard. I had no problems with it when we fired up the motor for the first time, and for a while after that.

Getting a constant 12v to it, have new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. Don't know whats going on here. Can it be frying moudles for some reason? Any ideas? It cranks over fine, have fuel, but no spark...

The reason why I say it also might be the carb is because I bought it used. its an E-brock 1406, worked fine for a while too. The car died on me another time after i put the new module in too, this time it had fuel AND spark, but it didn't want to start figured it might ave been the carb. let it sit for the night, and the next day it started right up.

I'm sick of all these stupid little things that keep going wrong, of course this happens the day before i was going to drive to my buddies house to put the new crossmember in. :blam:

Re: saprk (possible carb.) issues

Did you put grease underneath the new module to help dissapate the heat?
Without some grease there, they can easily overheat, causing it to not work.

Re: saprk (possible carb.) issues

Not just any grease, make sure it is di-electric grease made specifically for heat transfer. Without that, the module will burn up quick.

Re: saprk (possible carb.) issues

No i did not. I just got a new module from my neighbor, so I'll see if that does the trick. Put the grease just under the module or all around on the base?

Kinda hard to believe it overheats that easily. With the last one I just got, the most I did was drive it once up and down the road real quick, other than that it just idled in the driveway...

That is how I learned too. I burned one up once, replaced it and didn't know about the di-electric grease that is supposed to go on the bottom to aid in heat transfer. Drove it about 15 miles and it died again. Replaced the module again, this time with the grease and never had another problem.

That was the trick! Thanks a ton guys! Saved me a lot of headache. Drove it all around today, put some miles on 8) Best feeling ever!
