Is anyone using one of these. I really like to Q-jet on the car now, but the new intake is square bore only.If i do use it, does anyone know how much hood clearance is available? stock hood, small block, air gap style intake.

is it an air gap, or air gap copy? i know edlebrock make a spread bore air gap, but if you have to use and adapter (I wouldn't) hood clearance is very close i have and airgap with a 1 inch carb spacer and the air cleaner goes past the hood by maybe 1/2 inch so you might need to use a low profile cleaner, hopefully someone else will chime in with their experience.

It is an air gap copy. I really like the fuel economy and driveability of the Q-jet and would like to keep it. I do have a drop base air cleaner. The machine shop has already installed/choosen the intake so i am a bit limited on my choice.

I'm running a huge Victor Jr style intake. But I am running a Holley DP carb, without an adaptor. After extensive measurements, I had only 1.5" above the carb horn to the top of my hood. Which means...

Option #1: use a common 1.25 drop base, with a 2.75" tall filter (which no longer exists)
Option #2: find a special 1.5 drop base, and use a common 3" filter
... luckily I found a company called RamAirBox.com, based here in Canada who makes these from spun Aluminum. You might find another company in the states.

Do you have a dual plane intake? Most airgap dual planes are shorter than single plane airgaps, so you might not have as much trouble.
If you do, you may need to drill new holes for the carb bolts. Measure carefully, and make sure everything is square. You can also inlarge the carb plate holes for extra adjustment. I would also recommend using screw-in studs in the intake.

I don't know how much this helps, cuz you have a Q-jet... You might also have an easier time finding a drop base... the float bowls on my Holley are a b*tch for most drop bases.

I've used the adapters on the 69 Camaro I had at the time. Quality may be better now but make sure it's actually flat on both sides. If I had to run another one, I'd take it to a machine shop to have both sides slightly milled to assure a truly flat surface so no sealing issues crop up.

The extra money and hassle you're gonna go through to get that to work isn't really worth it. I think it would be worth it to just go buy a spreadbore intake and be done with it.
