I'm throwing this out there to see what you all think. I'm currently building a vortec headed 327 for daily driver usage for all but the nastiest winter months. I am wondering if I should or would want to pay the money and go with a non-stock converter. I've never had an aftermarket converter on a car before so maybe I've been missing out. I know I need to make up my mind before the old 305 comes out of the elcamino and the 327 goes in but I just don't know what to expect. I do have a trans cooler already on the elcamino and I'm leaning towards going one step above stock on my choice of converter. Daily driver, 3 miles to work and maybe one long road trip a year. What do you guys think?

What's your camshaft specs. & your rear gear ratio??

If the cam has more than 230* duration @.050, then I'd say yes a MILD converter of 2,000-2,400 would be usefull.

Also, what rear gear do you have?? A looser converter & less than 3.08's don't mix. You'll burn up the converter from excessive slipping.

A high stall converter makes very little sense for a car that's primarily street-driven unless you plan to power brake the car at every stoplight.

If you really want, a 2000 stall from ANY good manufacturer would be good.

The thing is, a small displacement engine not make huge amounts of torque like yours, you really won't even notice the difference between it & a stocker.

I have an Art Carr 2000-2300 in my Cutlass & with 400+ Ft.Lbs. I only notice the stall a little.

I'd agree. If you have to replace the converter get something a little higher stall just for kicks but otherwise you won't be able to notice much difference.
