what would cause a starter not to recoil all the way back in.i been having problems with a starter i bought off eBay.the damm thing dosen't want to recoil back in all the way and it's hitting the fylwheel which is grinding the sh*t out of the starter.i shimmed the starter both ways.you can shimm it down and you can also shim the block plate to bing it back from the fly wheel.low and behold the damm thing still hit.

Hi that starter is for a manual flywheel u need to cut 1/8 off the tip. the felxplate rubes the starter but u still have to use all the shims that came with the starter

sorry it's a automatic with a manual valve body.i still used the shimms and it didn't work.the company wants me to ship it back and enclose 13.00 for a replacement.i'm glad they are trying to help.

Here's my starter,http://kmjent.com/cart/product.php?productid=434&cat=4736486&page=1 (don't order from them, very bad experienced with CHEAP parts) Does mine need shimmed also to fit a flexplate (automatic) ??

I was having the same problems as you krazykyle, But it was all my mistake, i put my flexplate in backwards :blam: , I felt stupid.

Yes your trans is auto but the starter is for a manual flywheel. thay are cheep starters off ebay u just need to cut off the bendex a 1/8 shorter.the starters work real good for the $$$ but u still need to shim big time.
