Steadfast Column Collar???

Im trying to install my steadfast column collar on my 88 Cutlass Supreme Classic but the shield is rubbing up against the part of the column that moves when shifting gears (shifter on the columnn) making it nearly impossible to shift gears. Do I have a defective column collar or is there any way that I can fix this

yeah thats what I looked at when I installed mines. I was hoping that someone on here had installed one and wondered if they had the same problem
