Hello. I am wanting to upgrade to quick ratio steering. I am pretty new to this stuff. Couple of questions. Do used f41 steering boxes usually need rebuilding? If so can i just rebuild the stock steering box to my liking or is the box itself actually different in shape in size? Sorry for sounding dumb but like i said this stuff is pretty new to me.

F41 Boxes are the same dimension wise as the lesser power steering gearboxes. The age just the same so I would suggest ordering one up from the local parts store for an 83-88 Monte Carlo SS.

I can't remember any more what the differance is, but I've got an "XH" quick ratio box off an 87 IROC Camaro. Even used the Camaro pitman arm. There was at least 3 differant f-body boxes. The standard box, the "YA" Z/28 box and the "XH" box. The XH box has more "road feel" than the Z/28 box but the ratio is supposed to be the same. The regular box isn't a quick ratio I don't think. Also, the internal steering stops in the XH & YA boxes are differant due to having differing wheel diameters.
