Hi Everyone,

I’m totally in the dark when it comes to drivetrain. I keep reading about manual steering boxes on some of the threads here. Would it be easier if to switch to a short ratio steering box like on the SS MC? What's the difference?

Manual= more turns lock to lock. Power= less turns due to lowered effort from the hydraulic assist. You can have a custom made manual fast ratio box done, but you would have to be named Magnus and be a "World's Strongest Man" finalist to turn the wheel! So, if you want a fast ratio box, keep it power and get the better box from a F-41 car. If you are not concerned with corners and just want to go in a straight line, the manual will shave 20-30+ lbs off the nose of the car.

Sorry, maybe i didnt ask the question in the right way.

I read a thread by one of the other members here and he wanted to convert his 80 cutlass steering box to a manual. What are the benifits of converting to a manual steering box? He also asked if the manual steering box from a s-10 bolt right up? I just assume (no disrespect), that why take a steering box from an s-10 that takes more turns on a manual box to get steering response then from a MC SS that has a quicker turning ratio?

I do not believe that was the intention. The reason to convert to a manual steering box is to save weight in the front end, and free up a little HP from not having the pump. This is mainly done on cars built for a drag.

Proofreading...it's not just for High School students anymore...

I do a lot of posting on boards and have to say that too many people do not proofread their posts for understandability. You need to write posts keeping in mind that in all likelihood, no one who reads it knows you, your intentions or your vehicle. Re-read your posts checking for spelling, grammar, and content before you post. I do it on every post as I am terrible at typing and if I left things unedited, they would be hard to read.
