I have a 1979 Monte with a pecular problem. I have a battery with both the Chevy style hooks on the side and normal posts on the top. I have the car hooked to the side posts and my MSD 6AL and power cable for my 2 x amps on the top connectors. Everything worked when I put the car away last fall. I just got the car out this weekend. The stereo begins to crack, snap and pop very badly if you have it louder than a whisper. When I took it for a short drive, everytime I turn on the radio for more than 5 seconds, it pulls the car down like it is killing the ignition. The car will run good with the radio off at an idle. If you work the motor at all, it starts to miss and backfire. When I got the car back to the shop, I disconnected the amp power cable from the battery and the car DIED! It will only start and run with the amp power cable connected. I grabbed a second battery that I had and hooked my MSD & amp to that while leaving everything else hooked to the side posts. Everything seemed to work great. I didn't take it out for a spin, but the other problems went away. The car seems to have PLEANTY of power to crank and I am really confuesd. A friend of mine told me that he had seen one battery where only one set of posts worked correctly. I had the battery tested. Both sets of terminals tested at a 12. Seemed fine. I still think it is the battery. The battery is 7 yrs old. Any ideas?
