earlier today i went to the kore3 website and printed off some templates and tried them out on my as yet unmounted new wheels and i had a pleasant surprise. the wheels are the vision/summit racing legend 5 series wheel, 17 x 8, 4.5" backspace, 4.75" bolt pattern, zero offset. these things can hold 13.4" rotors with vette calipers easily or if you've got a bigger budget for your brakes than i've (seemingly) got for my whole car you could squeeze in Z06 rotors and 6 piston calipers with a 1/4" spacer in the front and the Z06 4 piston rear brakes clear the wheels just fine without a spacer with about 1/4" room to spare between the back of the spokes and the caliper front. moving the spokes outward to give the wheels more of an offset look like today's cars have paid off for those wanting bigger brakes on older cars like ours. had they moved them another 1/4" outward you probably wouldnt need the spacer for the front Z06 calipers to clear. the rotor isnt the issue, its the width of the caliper and how far it sticks out compared to the regular 2 piston calipers.

i was rather surprised how roomy the inside of these wheels are. the Z51 340mm rotors clear with a 1/4" of room around the tallest part of the C5 caliper. the clearance is very consistent around the caliper and there's little room for doubt as to whether they'll work. they will.

so i lucked out with my 600 dollar set of wheels, i can fit just about any size rotor/caliper combo in them with one exception. the Z06 14" rotor and regular 2 piston caliper (C5, not C6) will NOT clear these wheels. if i were grind down the ribs on top of the caliper they'd probably fit but i dont like the idea of grinding on my calipers to make them fit. maybe LS1 calipers might provide more clearance but i doubt it.

i triple checked my measurements both on the templates and for fit inside the wheel. the templates are exactly to scale as they should be (i measured with a digital caliper for better accuracy over a regular ruler) and i cut them exactly as i should have. i used a razor blade with a steel ruler for straight cuts.

what will clear:
12.80" rotor and LS1 or C5 caliper (regular C6 PAB)
13.4" rotor and LS1 or C5 caliper (Z51 PAB)
14" rotor and C6 Z06 6 piston caliper with 1/4" wheel spacer (i'm guessing 1/4" as the interference is slight)

what will not clear:
14" rotor and C5 caliper (i'll say the LS1 wont work either)

so if you're looking for cheap wheels that will clear large brakes without having to worry or guess, hopefully what i've put here will help you a little.
