Hey everyone, I m new to the site so please bare with me. I have an 84 monte carlo SS. I put in a 700r4 last year but kept the same detent cable, I also kept the 3 speed shift cable. I could never get the linkage in 1st. I burned the trans up. A friend turned me on to a guy at the city who rebuilds the county truck transmissions. He built the sh_t out of my 700r4 but told me to get the Holly linkage plate, Detent cable for 84 camaro and 84 camaro shift cable, (4 speed). I hooked up the detant cable and holly linkage detent plate, that seemed good.
When I went to hook up the 84 camaro shift cable (4 speed) I had to use the 700r4 82/82 trans bracket for the shift cable. I also had to drill a bigger hole in the console plate for the cable to fit into. My problem is, I still don't think I will be able to get it in first gear because the monte shift console only has 3 total drive stations. Do I need to put in the shift console from the 84 camaro or use another G body console, Can someone tell me which console I could use,I could really use some advise at this time.
