So here we go again with another cluster question :blam: . I am in the process of installing a vintage air unit in my 1979 Monte. When I took the dash apart I found the previous owner had bascally destroyed the cluster while doing some "repair" work. I pulled a few clusters from a local salvage yard today to make 1 good one out of 3. Here is my issue-My cluster is a rally cluster. The cluster I am going to use is a idiot light cluster. I use mechanical gauges so I do not care about gauges vs idiot lights and I actually like the later cluster I am wanting to use with the clock delete better. Now I know the printed circuit boards are different between these two clusters but what all does this effect? If I hook the idiot light cluster up in my car without changing the pins on the connecter will my dash lights, signal lights and gas gauge still work properly? Or will I need to switch pins on the connector? Also could I possibly use one of the idiot lights to wire a shift light signal to?

I don't see why you could do what you want with the gauges. You can wire it up any way you want. Idiot lights seem to be just grounded to turn on. That is my 2 cents, so I could be wrong on that theory.
But I did the idiot light to rally gauges, and yes, you have to move wires around on the connecters.

Montes are different than the Olds clusters. They only have one connecter that goes to the cluster instead of 2.

Oh, I am sorry, totally missed that.
Well, I got on all data at my school. I searched up the montes, but the oldest it goes is model year 1982. But I still grabbed the wiring diagram for instrument panel. I don't know if these are any help to you, but I tried.
