I have always had 4 speeds but finding a good T-10 in the pick a parts is next to impossible but I see the odd 5 speed. Is a T-56 a direct swap for the 4 speed? Will the factory G body hardware hook to the 5 speed. I dont want a fluid clutch, I want to use the z bar and factory pedals.

No.

Do you want to know about a 5speed or the T56?

I thought the T-56 was the 5 speed? What is the manual trans I see in the early 3rd gen F bodys and S10s? I wantto put it behind a mild SBC.

T-56 is a six speed; I believe you are referring to a T5 for a 5 speed. I have not heard good things about those, but maybe someone else will have better info for you on that.

The t5 is not know for its strength it's good to about 300ft/lbs the atvantage you gain with a t 5 is overdrive if ur just trying to get better mpg the it's is a sweet deal. Beware it will. Bolt up to your factory gbody bell housing but it is canted 17deg to the right. U will need to modify your cross member and shorten your drive shaft 2in also if u have a v8 u really need to get one from v8 Camaro with A 26 spline input shaft not the 14spline shaft that came in the v6 because the largest clutch for a 14spline is 9" and it will slip behind a mild sbc

The T5 will not live long behind a healthy small block unless you drive like a little old lady. It was only offered behind 305 V8's because it would not stand up to the torque of a stock 235-245 horsepower F-body 350.

The T56 is a much better transmission with two overdrive speeds and excellent aftermarket support. People put them in everything, and because it has two overdrives, you can run a very aggressive rear gear ratio and retain good street drivability.

I know of at least one company that modifies the T56 to replace T10 transmissions.
