84 El Camino. Out for a cruise around the block the other day. While driving, noticed the tachometer dropped to zero, came back up to ~1500, dropped down to zero then back up to normal again. On today's drive, didn't see any issues. Presuming it's the electrical connection where the gauge assembly connects to the dash wiring... those connections have lost some of their spring. Anybody suspect it could be something else?

Thanks,
Jim

If it still has the original tach filter mounted on the firewall this could be your problem.
They are known to fail after time.
If so,they have been discontinued a long tome ago by GM.
But,you can just bypass it to see if that fixes your issue.

Well,I was just looking at Mike's Montes,and what did I find but new tach filters.
I would hazard a guess and say they must be an aftermarket part as GM discontinued them many years ago.
He also has new '81-85 tach's available if it turns out to be your tach that is acting up;
If you call Mike and ask he sometimes has used stuff that isnt listed on his site.
My original tach started acting funny a few years ago,and I bought a new 8000 RPM tach from Mike.
I had bypassed the filter years before that.
