I have been having a problem with the tailshaft leaking on my trans. The weird thing is that it happened with two different transmissions. On the first trans, I replaced the seal and the o-ring for the housing. Still leaked after. Second trans only had a few thousand miles on it after being rebuilt. It was not leaking before I got it, and now it is. I am starting to think it is a problem with the driveshaft slip yoke. Last time I inspected it, there was no obvious wear from the seal and it felt perfectly smooth.

Is there any wear that can happen with the slip yoke that I would not be able to notice without measuring? Is there anything else that could cause these leaks?

theres a bushing inside of tail that wears out..comes with purchase of good seal

I thought I had a rear seal leak but turned out to be the speedo seal. driving the car blew trans fluid up onto the rear seal causing the misdiagnosis.

Was going to mention the bushing also, it should actually be a bronze sleeve behind the seal that will allow the yoke to wiggle if it is worn out.

What are the odds of having the exact same leak on two different transmissions? Especially one that was just rebuilt.

Its possible they did not replace that sleeve in the tail housing when they rebuilt it.

Very commonly overlooked...most people don't realize there's a seal there.

Why wasn't it leaking in the last car it was in?

Forgot to add that the bushing was tight and not letting the slip yoke move around on both transmissions.
