A quote from TURNA

**Just tired of so called "car people" hoarders letting good cars go to waste.**

Several years ago I ran across a yard full of cars, among them several Gbody's. At the time the fellows wife was home and let me look around but said don't take anything off anything. After looking I got a phone number to the husband...a work number...she would not give a home number. I called and asked about one of the wagons picture as it had a mint rear bumper on it that I wanted for one of my Camino projects. He told me he doesn't sell parts but whole cars...I thought oookay fine...how much for the whole wagon. "Well that one should be in the $1200 range" was the reply. I passed on it.

Most of these cars have been sitting for quite some time from what I understand, I recently meet someone that knows him and he told me you're lucky you got a price...normally he doesn't sell anything. Hmmm interesting, but what a shame. I know I've posted some of these cars before but thought I'd post up again as TURNA's statement above rang home after I read it. I'm not giving up however and will do what I can to find out more about them....I haven't been able to get ahold of him and it seems no one lives on the property anymore.

Anyway on to the pics...

I think this guy is a true hoarder as most of the cars up top are filled with all kinds of crap. There's a 3 car garage seen in this pic to the upper left that you can't get anything in as there is piles of stuff in front of them. Makes me wonder what's inside the garage??

Again TURNA's statement hit home and I couldn't help think about these ones that are rotting away!!

The next post will be about how the town/local government is infringing on his rights because they are forcing him to get rid of the cars.

That 79 olds would be the perfect parts car for my daughter's car. And that's to beautiful of a garage to be loaded with crap! You should go to the town tax office and see what's up with the property then you can take action to obtain the cars. Hell buy it all clean out the garage and set up shop!

I want either one of those 80 Grand Am or 81 Leman's noses, hood and tailights to make a modern day Beaumont

Man, those cars in the Quonset look worse than the ones outdoors! Looks like some birds made their nest in there, if you know what I mean.

From 10 ft, those G-Bodies don’t look half bad. Maybe it’s because I’m in California, and I’m used to everything being insanely overpriced, but $1,200 for a whole vehicle doesn’t sound horrible.

About 4 years ago we were looking to move out of the city and closer to my wife's hometown. We looked at a property, and while I was google imaging it, I noticed what appeared to be an old salvage yard about a half mile up the road. As it happens, the way the land lays, none of the stuff was visible from the road.

After we bought a place (not the one close to it),I finally got to talk to the property owner's son, who agreed to let me look around. He told me that it wasn't really a salvage , but that his father had done some mechanic work for the locals, and sold a few parts here and there. His father had passed on, and he had started crushing stuff to get the place cleaned up for his mother (also in poor health). Most of the cars were either stuff people didn't want to fix, or were older cars they no longer wanted and he bought them. I met up with him, and he gave me free reign of the place. There were probably 300 vehicles there, from the mid 50s up through the mid 80s. I was primarily interested in wagons, and there were a few, mostly later 60s early 70s big Fords/Mercs. I walked the whole place, twice, and there were only a few that were really anything of interest...lots of sedans, a few imports and Mopars. Pickups, all longbeds and used up aside froma nice 66 F100 shortbed with one heavily damaged bedside. They were Mustang people, and most of the stuff was ford sedans....oddly, a dozen 62-64 Galaxie sedans

So, I caught up with him and asked about 2 cars, a 59 Ford country sedan, and a 62 Impala coupe (with a trunk full of rat poo). Naturally, those had both been sold and not picked up yet. I asked about a 56 Ford coupe wrecked in front, but with a sedan with all the parts needed close by). $1200. No titles for any of the cars, there were some titles, but never signed for transfer, and all just strung out all over the house. Was not interested in looking for titles for any of it. Asked about general pricing, because there were a few things a friend would be interested in, and was told that he had been selling for $800-$1000 on most of them, unless they were "collector cars", "to help Mom out". There were probably 4 dozen crushed cars wrapped for transport sitting up by the gate (still there, by the way). He had been sending cars out after crushing, but the guy had stopped picking them up because scrap had fallen by almost 50%.

I had a hard time understanding why he was OK with crushing for 50% of the scrap value (which at the time was about $200 a ton), but thought people looking for projects/parts cars were good for 3-4 times that...without any paperwork...which in Oklahoma is a ROYAL PITA.

I guess my point on hoarders is that it's often a lost cause, because the stuff they have is either not really that good, or they believe it is worth way more than it really is. Be glad when one actually lists something for sale with a price, because you at least know what kind of Flavor-aid they've been drinking.

Oh yeah, I forgot that I had asked him about selling parts (there was a lot of nice stainless moldings on quite a few of the older cars).....he didn't really want to sell anything off of them because it might make them less desirable to somebody looking for a whole car.:blam:
