Quick question guys. Whats the best way to test the oil pump while i have the engine apart? I currently have the cylinder heads and intake man off but the distributor is still installed (olds 307)

Do i need to pull the dist. Or can i just hook up the starter and bump the key?
I want to confirm oil coming up through lifters before i put the intake back on.

Thanks in advance

Pull distributor- insert long extension with screwdriver blade end- engage oil pump slot- spin with drill- observe oil gauge and push rods. EZ-PZ.

If you have an old distributor, you can take the gear off, remove rotor and weld a piece to top so you can attach drill and have an oil pump primer

Just like the others have said you can use a drill. Make sure the drill is in reverse. Olds distributor turns counter clockwise

Olds distributors use a hex shaft. No screwdriver slot like a Chevy/Pontiac.

Didn't want you to get disappointed when you didn't see oil coming out.
