Hey everyone, i'm looking at buying this transmission, it's a th400 and the guy say's it is built to handle 700 horse, thing is he say's he has a stage 2 shift kit in it.First off what exactly is involved in a stage 2 shift kit ? and because of this, does that mean it will handle 700 horse ?
I have a funny feeling about this one.
Thanks everyone.

From what I remember the TH400 can handle around 600hp in stock form. I imagine with a decent shift kit like the Strange series it would handle close to 700hp. I would add a deep aluminum pan and a good cooler to ensure it will survive.

Thanks a bunch

When I built my T-400 I used a B&M kit. Stage 2 was street/strip. It had a VERY harsh 1-2 shift, and a solid 2-3 shift. I remember it involved changing an internal spring that boosted the line pressure to about 700psi. I was young and didn't care but in retrospect it was pretty raggedy for street use. The bad news was that this was a go-to-work car and sometime around February it was below zero, I'm running late, didn't let it warm up, and I broke the front pump.
