After a 300 mile drive I finally got to bring the cutlass home. Once it warms up (above 0 hahaha!) Might try and find out whats good and whats not. Motor started with some carb cleaner and ran good. Turned out the exhaust wasnt hooked up so that was loud! Previous owner has the headliner board, and got the new motor picked up. 3.8 carbed turbo, so it's a little better fuel wise than a big 455. Anyways, enough blabble.
Reality of life with the carbed turbo 3.8 might be not so great other than good mileage on the highway. Also check out www.oldspower.com very good gbody cutlass board. I have computer controlled F.I. turbo 3.8 with larger than stock intercooler and water injection. A GN. Very fun fast car on the street good mileage often low 20s if I keep my foot out of the turbo. So I like turbos & 3.8s. Also have a Olds Cutlass 442 with a 509ci Cad motor. With overdrive, (S.S. built 200-4r) working lock up converter, & Q-jet has gotten 17.0 mpg on hwy so big motors can get decent mileage if set up right. GN's ran 12.4 @109 & 442s's ran 12.5 @ 110. Both lots of fun and very different. There is a guy Dwight on the other board has an Olds 455 Cutlass that runs basement 12s and gotten like 20mpg also with overdrive, working lock up, and Q-jet. There is also a guy who posted on here from Indiana that put a newer 3800 series in and gotten mids 20s mileage and 11s. Nice lookin car btw. Have fun post up your upgrades. No landau top is a definate bonus.
I'd like to keep the 455 in there but Dad won't let a 16 year old drive a 400+ HP car. I don't blame him  Have to figgure a few things out still. Kinda want to keep it so in a few years if I decide I want to go fast I can put it back in. Still don't know if the Carb 3.8 is going in there, have to tear it apart and find what the origin of the "knock" is. Might get some work done this weekend. Sounds like its going to climb out of the deep freeze.
