As some of you know I bought a buick big block 430. I still need stuff like starter, alt, pullies, manifolds, intake. I have located all this stuff on ebay but of course there is no guarantee I will win it.

I have found a potential buyer for my 305 and trans. He has a complete 455 with everything that he wants to trade but it needs a crank kit. Im not sure yet if he just wants motor for motor or both of mine for just his motor. It's supposely a rebuilt motor gone wrong.(havent gotten all the details yet)

Should I get the money for my motor and trans, trade him with whatever the trade ends up being, or do the trade with a little cash also. Oh yea if I trade my motor and trans together I wont have a trans for my car. lol. He says he has a th400 but I really dont want to go through the process of getting my driveshaft shortened and moving the crossmember.

IMO anyone trading a 455 for a 305 is nuts.

That 455 must be beat beyond repair!

well the cam, lifters, double timing chain, intake, new fuel pump, pushrods alone are worth about what i want for the motor and trans imo. He says he put a sb when his 455 got messed up so I'm not sure if he needs parts or not. Thanks for the response but you gave no input on what you would do.

The trans that is on your 305 will not fit the 430 or 455.

305's have a Chevy bolt pattern 430's, 455's have the BOP pattern.

If you just want the accessories off the engine and nothing more and you don't need the 305 then trade him if it works for you.

But I would make sure that the brackets and pulley's will work for you.

As for the other internal engine parts I would open up that 455 and make sure they are good still before trading.

I was going to use my trans with an adapter until I could get a bop pattern. Accessories are the same to my knowledge. Dont really care about the internals of the 455 because Im not gonna use it. Really just want the acc.

It all hinges on if this is your only car or not. If it is, do not sell the 305 until you own every single piece needed for the swap. If not, sell the 305 and work towards piecing together what you need for the 430. You do not need the 455 to finish the car unless you have someone willing to trade a transmission you need for the 455.

Well if I sell buy the 455 I will have everything from intake to oil pan even though I dont need all that. Comes with edelbrock intake so I might go ahead and trade since the intake itself is almost 300 new. This is my only car but not too worried about it not running because I have no problem taking the bus. I think I will trade the 305 and keep my trans for the 455. I'm going to see if I can work a deal to get the th400 and driveshaft he had in his cutlass. Will let you know how it goes today if we meet.(hopefully)

Thanks for the suggestions.
