how wide of a tire can I put on the rear of my elco? Does anybody know? I have 15inch 245s on there now and they wont pass inspection no rubber left lol. The fronts are brand new 235s. But yea, does any body know how much meat can fit in there without modifying anything?

How wide are your rims?

I run stock 15x7's with 255/60 on my 442. I wouldn't go any wider than that on a 7" wheel.
With an 8" wheel with the right backspacing, a 275/60 should fit fine, but every car is different...

275/60 on a 8" wheel with 4" BS on my '87 Camino. Backspacing is critical with a 275 tire. Anything less than 4" BS on a 8" wheel will rub at the outside. Anything more than 4 1/4" will contact the frame where the frame flares out behind the axle.
