so i need tires bad on my everyday truck. the correct size is 255/70/16 i got 2 new 215/70/16. this is on a 2003 f150,i know its a ford but its a truck. my question is if i put this skinnyer tires on will it cause handling problems and or is it safe ? i would like to use these tires to save some cash but i want it to be safe in the snow and ice especially since i will be hauling around my newborn. i measured an they are about an inch and a half skinnyer.

They will also be about an inch shorter. It really shouldn't be unsafe assuming the load ratings are still high enough. Your speedometer will read faster than what you are actually going. And it may look a little silly.

Actually my studded winter tires were skinnier than my summer tires. I've heard it's actually better to use skinnier tires for winter driving. I mean driving on ice might still be driving on ice regardless, but as far as snow supposedly a skinnier tire is better for going through snowy roads. Something about how the skinnier tire will sink through the snow better as opposed to a wider tire just sitting on top of the snow acting like a snowshoe.
