i have an 86 monte carlo ss i want to put some street radial tires on the back....i just need to know if a 28x11.50x15 tire will fit without notching the frame? they will be on a 15x8 rim
I've got a 79 GP with 295 tires on 15x10s and they scrub just a bit going over bumps, but I need some shocks. With a good set of shocks it should be no problem.
Back space will be key.
I've ran 28 x 11.50-15 Mickey Thompson ET Streets on a 15x8.5 Center Line Convo Pro wheel (3.375 Back Space) on both my 79 Monte Carlo as well as my 88 Monte SS.
The fit on the 79 had no issues while the same wheel and tire combo sat a little close to the outside wheel lip on the 88 SS. (under 3/4 inch per side) This is on a soft compound bias ply slick posing as DOT street tire. Street radials with a stiffer sidewall may net different results.
The 88 Super Sport runs 15 x 8 Corvette rally wheels (4.0 BS) and a 245-60 which has no issues. Next set of tires I'll go to a 255-60-15.
Hope this helps1
