So i recently decided that my attempt to build the ultimate modern 84 Hurst/Olds was falling short due to the Automatic transmission. Although the transmission from Freddy Brown we put in the car is bullet proof, there is no way that in todays times GM would have put a manual valve body auto in this car. Originally, I desperately wanted to keep the lightning rods in the car since this is a real 84 Hurst/Olds. But as I drove the car and realized how well this thing performs compared to modern sports cars...I was leaving so much on the table by having a drag race transmission in the car. So we are almost done swapping in a Tremec TKO 600 Extreme from American Powertrain. The transmission was sent to Astro Performance in Florida to have the EXTREME upgrade done so that it will handle the power and torque of this car (656hp/657tq). As you guys know, there is nothing really out there for doing this swap to these cars so we are learning and fabricating as we go.
And of course the shift lever and knob are Hurst so it really will be the modern Hurst/Olds and retain a touch of the lightning rods!
I'm sure plenty of you think its crazy that I butchered a clean 84 Hurst/Olds...but I love these cars so much and always wanted to keep the look and make it outperform a modern sports car.
Does anyone on here have any experience with the TKO 600 Extreme? I am really hoping that it performs the way that they say the Extreme upgrade does. Anyone else doing or done this swap? I will take some pics shortly. I would love to hear anyone's feed back and thoughts.

Nice car man. I want mine to look that one of these days.. you have any videos on YouTube? What size tires/rims are those?

Any specific details on the clutch/manual trans swap? Type of pedals used? Looks like a hydraulic setup-was it custom, or an F body setup? What type of bellhousing did you use? Were there any fitment issues? Just curious for some info.

Thanks guys! Wheels are 17x8.5 all the way around. Tires are...and soon to change...245 45 17 Front and 255 50 17 rear.
Pedals are custom made and welded. American powertrain makes G Body pedals now but each pedal is the size of a parking brake pedal. So we cut off the pads and welded on larger plates from a G Body malibu and welded them on the make for more surface area. as far as the clutch, it is a Kevlar clutch. The set up is Hydraulic from american powertrain. The bell housing is a quick time set up also from american powertrain and the flywheel is billet steel from McLeod. The entire set up was a LOT of custom fab and testing and measuring and testing and measuring and more testing and measuring! But I couldn't be happier witht the final result. We are actually working with a few vendors to use our findings to make a G Body swap out set up for this application now that we have worked through a lot of the kinks.
