that is the question...

i'm looking at getting a spin on oil filter adapter without a bypass, all oil just goes through the filter first all the time. this sounds good and all but is it something you really want to run in a street engine? yeah i could get a regular adapter and call it a day but i want to make sure i have filtration as good as i can possibly have and the idea of letting dirty oil bypass the filter doesnt sound all that great to me.

any opinions are appreciated.

Bad idea. I've seen what happens when the bypass hole gets plugged up and the filter does not look pretty after. There's a reason the factory put them, and still puts them on there. If you're worried about dirt use synthetic with a quality oil filter

very bad idea the main reason for that bypass is for a cold start when you don't have oil pressure it bypasses the filter completely. unless you like putting new bearings in a lot i wouldn't do it

AMS Oil makes awesome filters... There's a nice description on their site about how they differ from convential filters, and even high quality filters.
(just throwing that out there...)

Alot of good reasons to have a bypass, but honestly if you firing your ride up in very cold weather (<30degF) with a high idle you chance blowing the paper element apart and clogging oil passages (seen this on a 3.8). Worst case the filter could blow completely off the engine and leave HUGE mess, yep seen that on a 350! I suggest using a bypass style adapter, under normal conditions if will not bypass and direct all oil through the filter. It's there to act as a oil filter pressure regulator, it simply insures the oil filter element doesn't see excessive pressure and blow apart or case the canister to rupture.
