I have the 700r-4 installed, I realize that my shifter is for a non-overdrive trans... I have looked into the two different shifters. The main bracket of shifter is different, as well as the detent bracket, shifter cable and cable range bracket that bolts to trans pan. Has anyone done this swap and know if I need to change all 4 pieces? I am led to believe I only need to change the cable, cable range bracket and detent bracket. I know the main braket is different but whether or not it needs to be changed I don't know. I have posted a blow-up of the floor shifter with part #'s in my album if anyone can please help me.

I have used the trans bracket and cable from a 200r4 but I have not located a 4sp shifter ( yet ). So I set mine up that I get all gears but low ( there is adjustment in the cable ). So as you can see it can be done with the peices you have now but with a compromise of no low gear.

IIRC - I used all the parts off the donor car (an 86 Pariessiene) - the shifter at the transmission side had to move about 2 inches one way or the other I believe. Everything was a drop in and bolt (except the driveshaft which had to be modified) and the crossmember was drilled about an inch out from before for it to fit. That was with a complete and running parts car though. The only thing I can think of that is out to lunch is the shifter in the car which has the bumps in the wrong place in relation to the old 3 speed. OD was bordering on N and so on.

I have already replaced driveshaft and crossmember. As far as the shifter, If I setup the one with no overdrive to not shift into low, will all the other gears line up. Or will they be offset? I can easily replace the detent bracket, Gbodyparts.com sell for $25. Do I need the main base bracket and the bracket for cable on trans pan or can I use 200C brackets?

just the detent is different. PRN OD32 all line up with the 3speed shifter just no low gear ( with the 200r4 cable ). I have thought of just grinding in another detent to get low myself.

Are the shifters different in other g-bodies? I was talking to someone who says I can use shifter parts from monte, it would be much easier to find. I am under the impression that they are all a little different, can anyone shed any light?

If i can remember correctly, i changed #16,#19,and#26. Those three parts were from a g-body with overdrive(it has the extra notch for the overdrive), #26 i might still have. Thats from a 442/200r4 trans, and i swapped that part onto my use-to-be 3 speed shifter. #16, and #19, i think they are just off any g-body with overdrive. Hope i can lend some help. Oh, I almost left this out, as far as #26 goes try to find one from either a cutlass or regal, i'm not sure if a monte or grand prix will work.

they are not exactly the same but can be used regardless.

I NEED HELP!!

Ok guys I'm having serious trouble... I have both the 200c and 200-4r stock shifters with correct detent plates. I have the both shift cables as well. Right now with the overdrive shifter and cable in place my cable is off by about 2 inches or so too far forward. I also have a shifter cable from camaro with 700r-4 however it does not fit into the stock shifters of a cutlass. Can anyone shed some light on a solution for me??

I had to use a camaro shifter and cable when I did mine..now its a 5 speed..
