Hey guys I'm doing a tpi regal swap, and I need some help.
I have a 1985 Buick regal. I'm putting a tpi with a 700r4 trans that came out of a 1987 camaro. I was wondering if anybody can tell me what kind of trans mount to use, and where to get it?
I'm hoping that I don't have to change the tail shaft cause someone told me that the camaro 700r4 trans is different from the other 700r4. Please help thanks

The Camaro & Firebird transmission does have a different tailshaft housing because of the torque arm attachment for the rear suspension. If you can swap the F body tailshaft housing for one from a Caprice, that should work in your Buick. Good luck.

Not just any Caprice......a 9C1 Caprice thats one that was a built to be used as a Police, Government, or taxi has those tailshafts..........the one on the right is a 9C1 tailshaft notice the mount on it.........the one on the left is from an Astro/Safari van that is a back up.....welding an L-shaped bolt or all thread will make this one work........

The TH700 is equipped with a removable tailshaft housing that has varied in length for different vehicles over different years. The tailshaft housing to look for if you’re replacing an original TH400 trans came stock on mid-’80s police cars (Caprice) and the early Impala SS. This tailshaft housing puts the mounting pad almost in line with the original TH400/200r4 pad and usually requires only slight elongation of the mounting holes to fit. If you’re replacing a TH350 trans, you can relocate the factory crossmember mounting holes rearward approximately 1½ inches or swap in an original TH400 crossmember.

I put in a 700r4 out of s10 pickup. Had the 9c1 type mount and I just switched the th350 mount into it and I also had to trim an inch or so out of the trans mounting tab to allow room for the trans oil pan.

I also installed a 700R4 in a 81 Malibu, Had to trim the cross member mount to clear the 700R4 pan. I also use the stock TH350 trans mount.
