they make a adapter to still run the mechanical speedometer and electronic sensor together. i am assuing you went the map sensor route? if you went maf you do not need the speed sensor.

something like this

http://www.abbott-tach.com/cablex.htm

My engine 1989 TBI/ swamping tpi Intake (MAP) with stand alone wire harnes.

This box look ok , calculating ,rims/tires size and rear end gers.
The easier way i think .
For 300$ You can buy gauges with nice futres hmmmm

Easy way ??
I found this on the bottom of page :
http://tech.oldsgmail.com/eint_cluster.php

Once the speedometer cable is disconnected, you'll be able to pull the cluster out far enough to disconnect the VSS Vehicle Speed Sensor by removing the 5.5mm screw.

If I use older th700 transsmission sending unit (mechanical) + correct gears to fit my tires and rear end ratio + cable to gauge and then from gauge vss conector run wire to TPI Ecm conector ???
Am I thinking right ???

I think there are some install articles on the Street & Performance web-(www.hotrodlane.cc) site that shows TPI installation into a G-body. If not, give them a call, they have a lot of the answers to your questions. I used them for my TPI install in my El Camino. Followed their advice, very few problems.

Just my 2 cents.

I'd stay away from dakota digital they suck in the day time there hard to see.I'd do a white face kit or new gauges in your cluster.
