My dad used to own a '69 442 (his second car) he talks about it all the time, and how hw shoul've never sold it.

I was wondering if there is a way to track down his car and see where it is today other than asking people who have owned it?

Obviously the vin is needed, so we'll have to get that first. He sold it to some local guy and it got passed around.

Probably varies by state. My dad tried to track down his first car and the DMV wouldn't give him any info. He was able to find a boat through the State Marine Board though.

If it is currently registered, it should come up on Carfax, if you have the vin. Won't tell you specifics though, from what I recall. Haven't used Carfax in a while.

Auto insurance companies have the ability to run vin searches as well, if you know anyone who works for one.

Some states also do not issue new plates every few years. Instead, the tags stay with the car even when it changes owners. If the state it was in when he sold it is like that, you may be able to use that information if the VIN is not available to you.

Hmmmmm... Seems like chances are pretty slim, but i'll tell my dad anyways.
