I got my new motor running last weekend or so, Obviously I took it for a little drive after initial break-in.

It didn't feel like it was shifting right at all. It's a th250. and first of all it leaked some fluid near the speedo cable (I'm guessing) after we got the new motor in. Could that be a reason? I think its just not going into 3rd gear becuse i got it up around 40-45 mph and it was revving real high.

I can't tell if it works in 1 or 2 because the header won't let me shift that low, and i didn't get a chance to fix it.

Any ideas on whats wrong here?

im not positive if the 200r has a shift module on it like the th350 do but they sit at the back of the transmission on the passanger side also make sure the vacuum line that goes from it to the manifold is hooked up

TH250 are not worth a McDamn, but if it's all you got to work with for the moment, First check your linkage to make sure you are engaging all gears, put a can can that seafoam transmission stuff in there and run it threw for about 10 miles, then fluid and filter change, and check your vacuum hose to the modulator, make sure it's not cracked and make sure you have it running off of a manifold vacuum port. That doesn't work get a th350 should bolt right in.

oohhhhhh. that vac. line goes to the manifold?? I have it on the carb now. It's an e-brock 1406. I have that vac. line from the transmission to the dr. side vac. port on the front of the carb.

So transmission should be hooled up to manifold vac? can I block off the manifold vac on the front of the carb. or do I have to hook that up too?

block off the one on the carb and tee in on the back of the manifold in front of the distributor. Use as much hard line as possible as the rubber lines have the possibility of collapsing.

Okay. Hopefully that will solve the problem. I thought the pass.side inlet on the carb was transmission for some reason, and blocked off both manifold vac. inlets. Live and learn I guess. I won't actually know it shifts right until spring because I have no insurance on it for the next 3 months.
