transmission question

I am rebuilding a 80 malibu and am currently removing old engine and trany. I found a 2-3 inch c3 stamping on the trans case. What does that mean or stand for? I was told the car had a metric 200 and they are not worth rebuilding, I just want make sure before I junk it. Thanks if you can help, Josh.

well your trans pan is the easiest way to tell. It will look squarish with a corner missing .... the word Metric will be written acrossed it.
