as far as specs what would be the best rear end to look for or one that would mount up fairly easy? thanks a lot for any help

Well, the simplest method is to get a set of rear disk brakes or rearend from a Regal T-type/GN with disk brakes. Either of these could be pricey.

There are conversions that use 79-85 Eldorado calipers, pads and disks, but as far as price goes, I'm not sure.

Another possibility are the later model S-10's. Many of those had disk brakes, and could be an easy swap.

Anybody else have any insight??

no g-body came with disc brakes.
nothing is bolt in. the s-10's used the standard 4-bolt axle tube flange.
the g-bodies used a weird 3-bolt axle tube flange that requires a special adapter, that most places don't have. and most of the ones that are out there are for eldorado brakes only. the eldo brakes are old tech and there's less support and stock for them every year.
here's one thing you can do http://www.thirdgen.org/ls1reardisc
i'm trying to figure out if a 90's b-body rear will bolt into a g-body. it's been done, but i don't know if it's been done right. if it works it will make things much easier.

You can get a rear disc kit from speedway for the 7.5 rear. It wont offer much in the way of an upgrade since its a single piston 10.5 rotor, but its better than the drummies! Its only $300 too.

x2 I have seen it done on 2 other cars and it works well. Even with the stock brakes up front the stopping distance was much shorter.

i have a set of newer s10 rear disc brakes i am trying to sell, 100 plus shipping for everything but the discs pads and the backing plates, they were rusted out too bad. they came off of a late 90s 4 wheels drive blazer but from what i have read will bolt up to the g body pretty easy. the flange that you bolt them to on a g body is goofy but i think you can cut it and drill new holes in it to make it square like it should be.
