I've done some searching, and haven't come up with the answer Im looking for. Any one out there have a tubed wagon with a functional rear seat? I don't really want to take mine out because it would be Kool to have a drag car with 4 seats. I will be narrowing the frame, building a 9" for it, and will be running a pretty big tire. I may even move the wheel well back to make sure I get enough tire. Im gonna be sending at least 1000HP to them so there gonna have to be fat. Any of you guys ever see a wagon like this?

Re: Tubed wagon?

Every tubbed wagon I've seen has had to sacrifice the rear seat.
But I certainly haven't seen everything, so there might be some out there.

You might be able to squeeze something in there with some creative fabrication, but it's up to you if it's worth the time and effort...

Re: Tubed wagon?

Im sure the fab work won't be easy, but you never know. I build rock crawlers for a living so I don't think it will be. I think if I move the rear axle back it should fit. Guess we'll see when I start cutting into her!

Re: Tubed wagon?

You need to see my pictures. Click on the links with this post. I have built a 1983 Pro Street Nomad. I used a Art Morrison rear frame kit and ten point roll cage. Narrowed 9" Ford Detroit locker four bar with coilover shocks.I don't think you will be able to do what you are talking about without full frame rails. One purpose of a roll cage is structual strength. If you want to race and with a thousand hp your car will definally not pass inspection. Sometimes when building a car there is some give and take. The vision isn't compattable with reality . Sorry the back seat might be the vision. You might come up with something that will work but it'll be a street rod without some sort of roll cage. You might do a search for race car safety requirements then you will know what you will have to accomotate..............

Re: Tubed wagon?

After 6 weeks, Mally is finally home! She got here Saturday night and I got started right away. The starter is seized up so I'll have to take it apart and fix it but she should run. The interior is all trash, but that's ok, I have a plan for that! I crawled under and looked at the frame better then I could where she was buried. It's in pretty good shape except for the horns in the rear. If it wasn't 16* out side and starting to snow I would be out there with my drop light getting the starter off instead of sitting on the couch being lazy. I would post pix, but the board won't let me 🙁

I have one problem though, any one know how to get the plastic off the tail gate with out destroying it? My gate won't open, I think one of the rods fell off but I cant get to it with the panel on?

BOB, I tried clicking on your links but they don't work. I have built a few drag cars in my time, and know about the inspections and all that. Im planning on narrowing, caging, and every thing, the seat is gonna have to go. I want to keep it but reality is there just simply isn't enough room. I plan on doing the 2 door thing as well, but Im gonna do it a little different then most I have seen. I don't like the look of the short door, and one big steel panel. Im gonna use a Monti Carlo as a doner and use the long doors. I will also be leaving the window in, whats the point of having a wagon with no windows? I have come up with a way to fill in the gap to, but that's my little secret!

if I remember right you should be able to crawl in the back and work off the tailgate cover with the tailgate closed, I had to do that to mine when I got it and it sucked just try and be carefull not to damage it since they are hard as hell to find in good shape

Just a quick up date for you. Got the engine and transmission in this weekend, and started putting it all together. It's a little tight on the driver side, but I took out the A/C so I would have plenty of room on the passenger side. It fits a lot better then I thought, I figured it would be a lot tighter. I started a block off plate, but didn't have time to get it finished. Not quite sure what Im gonna put up there, it looks kind of odd with all the bare space up there in one corner, and the other one is stuffed. I got the new steering column in to, I used a '92 GMC truck column and cut the bracket off the Malibu column. It was the same length so it dropped right in. I got a camera to take better pix but for some reason they are to big. Phone pix are as good as it gets I guess.

Sweet, a Caddy!

You should check out MikeP's El Camino that he's putting a Caddy 500 in.

You can use a site like Photobucket, or I use CarDomain to host the pics and then link them to here.
