Turbo air intake

This is not g body related. Just a general car question from a noob.

In this twin turbo camaro (pic attached), the intake to both of the turbos is bare and unprotected. Is that safe? Shouldn't there at least be like a pipe with a filter on one end that feeds into the turbo? Id be afraid that dirt or dust or something would fly in there and mess it up.

(And, uhm.. Just checking.. That is the air INLET that I'm looking at, right? Not the exhaust outlet? I don't really know much about turbos lol)

Ya that is asking for trouble, and it is inlet side of the turbo. On the street you need at least a cone filter on their. So you don't suck dirt and bugs into your engine, and trash the turbine. Drag racers a lot of the time do not run a filter. They think they are too restrictive.
