I am currently pondering at the idea of placing a Turbo from a T-Type onto my naturally aspirated mildly built 3.8L (229c.i) motor that currently is in my El Camino. I would like to know if all I need is the setup from an Buick and if that would work. I am starting from scratch and have no idea of even where to start.
I just think it would be really cool to see a turbo converted V6 in my El Camino than to go with the SBC swap. The motor was just completely rebuilt in April of last year so I don't plan on doing a SBC swap.
What are your guys ideas or inputs for this conversion?
What type of turbo is needed?
What type of exhaust setup is needed?
Cost?
Carb. Type needed?
anything would be apprciated

Its not easy or very feasable and the limits of a non turbo or "109" block and non turbo crank leave a lot less room for power before becoming over stressed. 🙁 Buick had a 231ci 3.8L and Chevy had a 229ci I am not sure which you have but I think the answer is the same regardless. You can get more better and more specfic answers to this question at www.turbobuicks.com or www.turbobuick.com.

you have a chevy motor. nothing from the buick motor will be usable.as its not the same at all.
you will need to build some manifolds.you can use the turbo from the buick motor. and then you will have to make charge tubes to fit your car. you should do a intercooler as well.

be prepared for a lot of work. maybe you can get a blockoff plate for the carb & use the gooseneck from a 78-79 turbo regal and reuse the quadrabog on that set up. but dont forget, the buick turbos had a hardened crank. i dont even know if they have a similar crank for the chevy. then u will have to make sure ur compression ratio is correct at 8:1. and...and...and...just a lot to consider. i like to be diff as well but sometimes the only way out is the norm. it would be easier and probably more cost effective just to drop in a 350ci or LT1 or LS-x.
