The wire to my underhood light has been ripped off on my 84 Regal. Can someone tell me what color the wire is and where this wire goes? Maybe I can find it coming out of one of the harnesses if I knew where to look.

Also, My trunk light doesn't work. Bulb is good. Any specific things to check, common problems with the trunk light circuit?

Thanks

The under hood light wire should be black & it feeds from the front light harness. The trunk light feeds from the passenger side along the rocker just like the speaker wires. Check along there & on the trunk lid hinge to see if any undone connectors or cuts.

Dome light fuse powers the trunk light circuit.

My 85 Cutlass has a brown wire for the underhood light (in the headlamp switch circuit, where most are brown in that circuit).

I think the Mamas and the Papas sang about G-body electrical problems before there were G-bodies..."all the wires are brown...and some more are gray...I've been for a walk...cuz it didn't start that day" 🙂

Well, ok, I just made that up.

Thanks guys. A related question.... do either the hood or trunk light have those mercury switches to turn the light off when the hood is down?

My hood light looks like this one:
With no switch integrated. The trunk light is similar with no switch.
Do these just burn all the time or have the switches long disappeared from this car?

Mercury switches

Most of your gbodys under hood light was turned on by the head light switch but it did have mercury in it. Trunk light does operate just on mercury.

As i recall the under hood switch did not go through the headlight switch. Battery feed.

If you had the interior light package and most cars did in New England your under hood light and your glove box light would come on with your head light switch.
