I am painting my interior and have had good luck until I started on the console lid. My interior is out of an 87 442 and is grey in color. My problem is that the console lid has dried I guess and the paint keeps soaking in and won't cover correctly. It looks worse now than it did before I put paint on it. Short of buying a new lid is there any kind of sealer that you can buy to seal off the lid and at least make take paint right? If not, does anybody know of a place to get a reproduction lid? I can't pay the $350 they are advertised for. Or can anybody tell me how to fix this problem period.

i had kinda the same issue with some arm pads for my doors on my 80 elco i picked em up from the junk yard and they were filthy and dried up but the vinyl grain still looked good i applied some duplicolor prep spray / degreaser comes out kinda thick and seems oily but cleans up and drys fine after 3 good cleanings i applied the duplicolor vinyl and fabric paint and they look like new after 1 light coat and 2 decent coats i wpuld try that it each can was 8 bucks but it sounds worth a try before u spend 350
