Hi, All!
Daniel, with the ‘84 Caprice, 305, ccc Quad, again!
Does anyone have a list of hoses sizes? There’s a small one, I’ve not been able to find a match at the local parts stores. That Quad must have at least six different sizes going into it and near it!

Here you go...

The overall OD may change slightly due to wall thicknesses, but they go generally by the ID. 5/32", 3/16", 7/32", and 11/16" are predominantly used. This isn't to say smaller or larger isn't used. Factory hoses generally had some ID's listed on the hose via printing.

Here's a tip. If you can't find any sizes on the hoses themselves, get a drill bit set and go by the smooth end inserted into the existing hose. Measure the length first, then cut off any end on it that may be deformed around a connection fitting, etc. Then measure the fresh cut hose to get the approx. size you need. Note the size of that drill bit. Check out the hoses at the auto parts store with the measurement you got from the drill bit. Slightly smaller is better than slightly larger.

Ernest and 69hurstolds,
Thank you very much!
I thought about using the drill bit to get the size! I’ll check Amazon to see if I can order packs of those sizes. I find the auto parts stores hose selections either lacking or poorly arranged.

Yes on the hose sizes. 5/32 and 7/32 very common.

A good parts store will have rolls of the vacuum lines and will sell by the foot. Typically any where from about .89¢ to $1.39 per foot. Ace Hardware also carries them, probably others as well. Get good quality ones that are oil resistant. The crappy ones will degrade and become soft if they have significant contact with petroleum products. When this happens they will collapse shut when under vacuum.

Gates 27042, 50' roll for 5/32" and Gates 27043, 50' roll for the 7/32" stuff. If you're replacing all of it, get a roll of each. Likely get both for around 75 bucks. Bite the bullet and go with it. The fact is, MOST of your hose will be one of these two sizes. Don't worry, you can likely sell the rest if you don't use it all.

That is exactly what I did. Just roll out what you need, cut it to size and put it to use. You'd be surprised how much spaghetti is under the hood and how much of that crap you will use.

As far as the 11/32" hose for the brake stuff, I got that from GM many moons ago. I just ordered it over the phone, "Make it 2 boxes to be sure". Didn't realize it came in a big azz box of 25'. Only need about a foot thereabouts.

Thank you for the info!
Gates for hoses—glad I didn’t buy anything on Amazon yet! I’ll look for them!
A few years ago, I replaced the drive shaft bearings on my ‘71 Maverick. Before inserting the shaft into the seal, I got gear oil—I only needed about three tablespoons of the stuff to lube the seal, so now I have a full bottle I’ll never use up!
