Okay so here's the deal.
I bought i new carburetor from summit and it is longer (front to back) thank my old carb.
I was running my vacuum lines from a three way "tree" behind the carb. Now the new carb wont allow for that.
The new carb has one auxillary vacuum port but before i use that. is there anywhere else I can hook up my brake and transmission vacuum lines? Here are some pics

^this is where the lines used to be hooked up. you can see where i plugged it and how the carb is right above it.^

here is the port i was using but is too tall.

^here you can see the vacuum aux port on the carb. (the little brass plug) how ever it appears that if i put on the included vacuum connection it will hit the coil and cause issues.^

^and i dont even know what this little plate is for. its on the passenger side of the intake manifold. looks like it could be for vacuum?^

Your brakes hook up to a large full time source and if your trans is a th350 or such it hooks to a full time vacuum port also. The plate in question is a cover for the EGR.

here are some pictures of what i ended up doing and it didnt seem to work.. however i'm going to tighten everything up tomorrow and see if that helps...

ran the vacuum line from the carb..

to a "T" fitting. and to both the transmission and brake booster

I ended up with the same thing when I tossed the qjet in favour of an aftermarket carb. UI ended up with a 90 deg fitting into the intake and reinstalled the orig T fitting Horzontal instead of Vertical. In my situation I had just enough clearance. Your situation may need to either get a thicker carb gasket or run a small spacer to get the carb a little higher off the intake ( which may require a drop base air cleaner to clear your hood ).

In the other pic I see you have an EGR Blockoff plate. The second plate you are asking about is the is part of a hot air choke assembly.

i got my hands on a 90 degree fitting that fits under the carb where the three way fitting was so i plugged the extra vacuum port on the carb. the car still shifts from park to reverse really hard... is the vacuum still the issue?

Vacuum has nothing to do with the park to reverse shift. What is your idle speed? Are you running an aftermarket cam, what are the specs?

then why is it that with my old carb. when i didnt have a complete vacuum it would shift hard from park to reverse but when i completed the vacuum it shifted nice and smooth. now i had to change a couple fitting to make everything fit with the new carb. but its shifting hard again? yes it has an after market cam. the whole engine was built ground up by my father in 2004 and i dont know any specs other than the block year is 1972 and is a two bolt main performance block. bored .030

Usually if it bangs hard into gear the vacuum modulator isn't receiving a vacuum signal.
