Comp 980-16 Springs with damper, what I assume the seals are, SLP-ST-2002.

The ID of the springs is .785 and the OD of the seal is .748. There is .037 clearance there. I don't imagine the springs on a 5k max rpm engine with a fairly tame cam (.446/.468, 276/281 112LSA) would walk around .0185. You guys think it's enough clearance? Any input is appreciated.

I do have some comp 942-16 springs lying around that are fairly bigger. The spring itself has a 1.039 ID. I think I'm gonna use them. They're off of my '76 Buick 350. They only have 5500 miles on them. I read a Super Chevy article online that states comp likes to see at least .050 between the seal and the spring. I definitely don't have that with the 980s.

I would look up the springs that are required for the cam (which I always run) and see what ID they are. What ever you use make sure you have the proper spring rates and installed at the proper height.

The comp 942 springs are dang close in specs to the recommended springs, they fit, don't rub. Plus I already have em. I guess I'll see how this goes.
