Very Tall First Gear - Transmission Problems.

Since I removed the stock carb in my 84 H/O, I figured I wouldn't need the computer any more. Since the car has a 200-4R transmission, I found out that I would also need a torque converter lock up kit. I purchased and installed the "TIC 376600 Lock Up Wiring Kit" for 700 and 200-4R transmissions.

Now I don't know if my problem is related to this part, but when I took the car out today (first time out since the fall), I noticed that the transmission did not shift out of first gear until about 5500 RPM and then gave a hard kick into second gear. 2nd through 4th operated fine, but the fact that I am cruising at 35mph in first gear worries me. Anyone know whats wrong?

i see in your sig you have lightning rod shifter, are you using that? is it a manual valve body?

What carb did you put on it? I'm sure somebody can chime in with what bracket you'll need.

If you don't have the correct positioning of the TV cable bracket, it throws it off, and the car won't shift right.

You guys are right it is the TV cable that is causing the problems, and I found this incredible article on how to adjust it, but I'm assuming its only when using the stock carb. The carburetor I am using is the Edelbrock 1405 on the stock intake, with the corresponding adapter plate.

On the transmission end, if it matters, is completely stock. For the Hurst that is. Lighting rods and whatever else came on it stock is there, only exception being the Lock Up wiring kit.

So now that I know I need the TV relocation bracket thing, the question is which one?

Two questions. You linked me to the kit for a Holley 4100, would the kit for Edelbrock Performer 1406 Series be more appropriate?

Also, the instructions state "If you have a used transmission or one rebuilt by another company, you will need to install our custom length spring into the valve body. This is not an optional step." Will I need to install this spring as well?

sorry about that, i think i was thinking 1450 holley, i know i was thinking holley. dohh!!!
i would assume that you do need the spring, but i'd call them to confirm. i talked to them once and they were very helpful.
