I have removed the trim and the rails that the weatherstripping actually attaches to around the tops of the windows and removed as much of it as I can from said rail. However, the remainder is attached via adhesive. Can I use a solvent such as acetone to remove the remainder of the weatherstrip and adhesive from the rails?

i had the same prob with my elky. eather use a heat gun or a hair drier to warm up the part and use a razor blade to scrape it out. its not hard but it takes time. and remember to cut away from yerself, i almost gutted myself doing this. but thats just me being me
