I had contemplated it at one time, but if you’ve ever done any sheetmetal welding you know that warpage is a huge problem. Then there is always the possibility (probability) of the filler over the welds cracking.
I had to do hood scoop on my 57 Plymouth to clear the Tri-Power and decided to do the same thing the factory did in the 60’s and early 70s......make it a bolt on instead.
On that project I took the scoop section from a 63 Thunderbird, trimmed it down to size, ground the heads of 6 carriage bolts flat and welded them to the bottom of the scoop. I had six small areas to smooth, then bolted it on. It was a lot simpler than all the body work I would have had to do if I had perimeter welded the whole thing and turned out pretty nice.
