Welding on spring perches

I could use some advice on rear end welding. I'm have a Ford 8.8 and am going to weld on coil springs perches for a swap into a MCSS. I'm wondering if I can get away with doing the welding WITHOUT removing the axles / outer bearings . . . and what about the oil residue in the housing shaft? It's drained. Any help would be much appreciated.

Man! I'm doing the same swap! Interested to hear how it goes for you! I was considering buying a cheap 7.5 axle from a wreckers and using that to do the mock-up, so that I don't have to use the axles in the car.
