I'd have to dig it out to take a pic, but my 85 should be getting it's ORIGINAL South Carolina-issued plate "BLG 525", once approved. It was the first plate the car ever got as it was ordered up by the dealership during purchase. It's still in nice shape. But they used to do things a little different back then.
The rule in SC is that if you have a "year corresponding" plate, you can run it as long as it isn't a local/state governement plate, or some other stipulations. Everything you'd do to get a regular plate except that you need to get your plate pre-approved and pay a $30 special plate fee every year. The $30 goes for vanity plates as well.
I'm just hoping they're not too critical to note that the 86 is not the model year, and the actual issue date was 1985. Maybe they'll have registration records that go back that far (probably not) of my car to show that it was its first plate.
Here's a depiction of what the 1985-issued plate looks like (NOT MINE). I'll dig out my original and post it up later.
